Nagaland: 7 accused arrested in Lamhainamdi killing

The investigation had revealed that the 19 accused persons "were part of a deep-rooted criminal conspiracy to plan, prepare and execute the killing of three persons at Lamhainamdi Village".

Nagaland police arrested seven accused individuals, including the village chief and underground cadres, in connection with the killing of three persons at Lamhaidamdi village, along the Peren-Dimapur border on March 22.

According to a release issued by PRO and SP (Crime) of Nagaland Police Headquarters, the Special Investigation Team (SIT) of Nagaland, on Thursday, filed a charge sheet against 19 accused persons belonging to different factions of the Naga underground group.

The charge sheet has been filed under different sections of the IPC (Indian Penal Code) and Arms Act and Nagaland Security Regulation, a senior officer said.

Seven of the accused out of 19 who have been arrested by the SIT are currently in judicial custody, while the police are on the lookout for the remaining 12 who are absconding.

The seven arrested persons are Kisheto Zhimomi, Head Gaon Burah (GB – Village Chief) of Vihuto Village, Munwang Konyak and Yepeka Kiba of NSCN-IM, Lentilen Hangsing of NSCN-Unification, Tongkhalhao Sitlhou of Athibung and Vikheshe Achumi, and Livingson Awomi of Thilixu village, the officer informed, adding that four suspected persons who were arrested earlier in this case and subsequently granted bail were released from the case.

Earlier on March 23, a suo moto case in crime against unknown persons was registered by State Crime Police Station (SCPS), while an SIT headed by a senior police officer was constituted for investigation of the case.

The investigation had revealed that the 19 accused persons "were part of a deep-rooted criminal conspiracy to plan, prepare and execute the killing of three persons at Lamhainamdi Village".

The officer said that the SIT had visited the makeshift camp in the jungle, 2-3 km away from Vihuto Village, that was used for accommodation and preparation by the accused of the commission of the and collected various incriminating evidence. 

During the investigation, the SIT had seized evidence such as photographs of the accused with arms, videos, certain technical evidence, crucial material such as ammunition, and other incriminating materials from the crime scene, the officer said.

Meanwhile, the identities of few other unknown persons involved in this case are also being established and further investigation in the case is being continued, he added.
