Meghalaya: MeECL records highest-ever bill collection at Rs 102.88 crore

The Meghalaya Energy Corporation Limited (MeECL) registered a record high collection of bills for the month of March 2021.

According to a statement posted by MeECL on Facebook on Monday, the bill collection for March 2021 has touched Rs 102.88 crore, the highest ever in the history of MeECL.

"Because of the several reforms brought in the last six months, the revenue of MeECL for Financial Year 2020-21 has gone up by 6.05 per cent compared to last year, despite the pandemic," the statement read. 

The MeECL has been in the news for the past many months over charges of financial irregularities, load shedding, smart meters project among others. 

Recently, the Corporation made headlines after a case of power theft was unearthed in Ri Bhoi district, of which an internal investigation has been initiated by the Chairman-cum-Managing Director of MeECL, Arunkumar Kembhavi.
