AGARTALA:

Union Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar has accused the past governments of Tripura of failing to look over developmental activities in Tripura, and not utilising the central funds for the same.

Addressing a Showcasing of Technology Products-Cum-Interface Meeting and inauguration of Added Infrastructure at College of Fisheries in Lembucherra on November 17, the Union Minister said that the development trend seen currently in the state is due to the concerted efforts of Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb and Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

“I have worked with the earlier governments of Tripura, but with much pain, I want to say that the funds which were sent by the central government to the then Tripura government was not utilised properly. The then government neither believed in work culture nor development," he said.

Appreciating the efforts of Tripura CM for the development of the state, Tomar expressed happiness about how the government is working for the state.

Holding the previous Communist Party governments responsible for misgovernance, Tomar stated that the Communist Party in the state had exploited the farmers.

“The then government never carried out any target-oriented work. They never did any work for the benefit of the farmers. No government can be successful without setting any target. Unfortunately, the then government failed to increase the per capita income of the farmers," Tomar added.

Tomar further pointed that if BJP formed the government ten years back, more work could have been done across all sectors.

Echoing a similar tone, Tripura agriculture minister Pranajit Sinha Roy said, "After the BJP formed government in Tripura led by Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb, many initiatives have been taken, including procuring paddy with MSP, which has helped the farmers get good amount for their produce."

Meanwhile, the Union Minister, as part of his visit to the College of Fisheries, also inaugurated the Wet Lab, Academic Building, and Library Building at the institute's campus.
