Tripura renews agreement with Bangladesh for power export

The Tripura State Electricity Corporation Limited (TSECL) had signed the Power Supply Agreement for the sale of 160 MW power with the Bangladesh Power Development Board (BPDB) in 2016.

Tripura, which has been supplying 160 MW of electricity to Bangladesh for the past five years, has renewed the agreement with the neighbouring country.

According to a government-run radio station report, initially, Bangladesh was not interested in importing power from the Northeastern state as the former got better deals from other power suppliers. However, they agreed to sign a new deal after several rounds of negotiations.

The Tripura State Electricity Corporation Limited (TSECL) had signed the Power Supply Agreement for the sale of 160 MW power with the Bangladesh Power Development Board (BPDB) in 2016.

TSECL MD, MS Kele informed that the five-year agreement had expired in March 2021 and Tripura is getting comparatively good rates from Bangladesh than domestic charges.
