Tripura Police, Enforcement Directorate recover Rs 80 lakh during raid

AGARTALA:

The Enforcement Directorate (ED) and Tripura police carried out raids at seven different locations in West Agartala and Sonamura in the Sepahijala district, recovering Rs 80 lakh of Indian currency and Rs 30 lakh in Bangladeshi currency.

“During (the) search operations, cash amounting to Rs 80 lakh and 30 lakh Bangladeshi Taka found to be involved in hawala transactions have been seized under the FEMA (Foreign Exchange Management Act),” a police source said.

“Other incriminating documents relating to hawala transactions were also seized for scrutiny and examination,” the source added.

The team also detained a few individuals but refused to release their names because of the ongoing investigation.
