AGARTALA:

With the ongoing initiative by Assam and Uttar Pradesh governments to enact cattle protection and population control bills, Sudhangshu Das, a BJP MLA from Fatikroy constituency in Tripura on Friday made a similar demand and said that he would raise the issue in the next session of the assembly.

"I think the two demands should be implemented not only in Tripura or two or three states but in the whole country for national interest. I will raise the issue in the next session of the assembly," the MLA said.

Speaking about his demand for legislation on population control, Das said the population of the country is going "beyond the limit" and that it is necessary for the governments to have a legal framework to tackle the explosion.

"Today, India is heading towards a serious population boom but the resources are limited. We are limited to our geographical territory. So, all the state governments must enact laws to incentivise people who are resorting to family planning and accessing government facilities for guidance on the issues," he said.

On cattle protection, he said that he will move a private member resolution on uncontrolled cattle smuggling, especially of livestock, in the next assembly session.

"We must ensure zero tolerance for any kind of illegal activity," he said.

He further added that Cow Protection Bill is also important to ensure the religious sentiments of people are not hurt.
