Tripura: AAI Chairman inspects new terminal at MBB Airport ahead of inauguration by PM

Built at a cost of Rs 438 crore, the new Maharaja Bir Bikram International Airport is built on 30K sqm. area, it will be able to handle 1,000 domestic and 200 international passengers during peak hours, making its annual passenger handling capacity 3 million.

Chairman of Airports Authority of India (AAI) Sanjeev Kumar, on December 28, inspected the new terminal at the Maharaja Bir Bikram (MBB) Airport in Agartala, ahead of its inauguration by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on January 4.

Speaking to The Northeast Today, Kumar said, “The MBB airport is a very important airport in the Northeast and also for Tripura. It will offer domestic and international connectivity to the Northeast.”

He further added that the facility has all modern facilities at par with other airports in India. “It has 20 check-in counters, 4 passenger boarding bridges and passenger-friendly facilities,” he added.

Built at a cost of Rs 438 crore, the new Maharaja Bir Bikram International Airport is built on 30K sqm. area, it will be able to handle 1,000 domestic and 200 international passengers during peak hours, making its annual passenger handling capacity 3 million.

The terminal building depicts local art and tourism through its architecture. Bamboo, widely available locally, has been used for beautifying the interiors, whereas, local craft has been used to promote cultural tourism.

Following the inspection of the new terminal building, the AAI chairman along with other officials, attended a meeting with Chief Secretary Kumar Alok.
