Trio held with drugs worth Rs 3 crore in Tripura

All the arrested have been booked under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985, for further legal action, the SP said while adding that police have intensified operations against drugs in the area following the haul.

Tripura police, on December 27, seized contraband items worth more than Rs 3 crore from two separate locations in North district, bordering Assam and Mizoram, and arrested three persons in connection with the seizure.

Speaking to the press, North district Superintendent of Police (SP) Bhanupada Chakraborty said, “Acting on a tip-off, we conducted raids in Churaibari and Panisagar areas. The first raid in Churaibari saw the police seizing 25,000 bottles of Phensidyle from a truck, bearing Reg No. NL01AC8677, enroute to Assam. We also arrested Sabaaj Ali, a 24-year-old resident of Gaya, Bihar, along with brothers, Askib Ahmed and Amir Ahmed."

Chakraborty added that they detained a second truck at Panisagar during the second raid, and recovered 4655 bottles of cough syrup and 31,824 banned tablets from the vehicle.
