AGARTALA:

Union Civil Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia, on Januray 4, said the newly built MBB Airport in Agartala will open new doors for the development of Northeastern Region (NER).

The Union Minister, who was present at the inaugural ceremony of the airport, stated that the Integrated Terminal is an example of the vision and determination of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

“Today, a new chapter has been added to the glorious history of Tripura with the inauguration of the new State-of-Art terminal. The Integrated Terminal is an example of the vision and determination of the Prime Minister. This will open new doors of development in the state and North East Region,” he said.

He pointed that the airport, spread over 10,000 square meters, and built in an area covering 30,000 square meters showcases the cultural heritage of Tripura. “It will cater to 30 lakh passengers annually besides serving as epicenter for exports and imports,” he said while adding that the exports have already started.

Claiming that Northeast had only 6 airports all this while, he further stated that under the NDA government, the number of airports and helipads constructed in the region now stands at 15 and 17 respectively.

“There were 74 airports in total before 2014, the number has touched a little less than the double mark—1409 across the country,” he said.
