BSF seized contraband items worth Rs 27 crore in 2021 under one sector: Tripura DIG

The Border Security Force (BSF) of Sector Headquarter of Gokolnagar in Bishlagarh sub-division under Tripura’s Sepahijala district has seized contraband items of more than Rs 27 crore in the last one year.

Addressing media persons at the sector headquarter on December 29, DIG Rakesh Ranjan Lal, stated that the BSF has seized many contraband items under the Sector Headquarters of Gokolnagar this year.

“During our raid this year, we seized contraband items worth more than Rs 27 crore. We seized cannabis worth Rs 7.65 crore, Rs 72.13 lakh worth of Phensidyl/eskuf, Yaba tablets worth Rs 3.65 crore, cattle worth Rs 1.58 crore, garments worth Rs 3.59 crore and other miscellaneous items amounting to Rs 34 thousand,” he said.

Mentioning a recent incident the DIG said that in the series of such operations, acting on specific BSF intelligence input, on December 28, BSF troops of Border Out Post Anandpur, Ex-150 battalion BSF of Gokulnagar successfully seized 29,580 Yaba Tablets worth Rs. 1.47 crore near Indo-Bangladesh Border Fence, behind a government School under Sonamura Sub Division of Tripura’s Sepahijala district

Besides, on an intervening night 28-29 December BSF troops also succeeded in seizing various other contraband items having a collective market value of Rs. 15,78,138.

“Further, on specific BSF intelligence input, troops of Border out Post Srimantapur under Ex-133 battalion of BSF, Gokulnagar also foiled the trans-border attempt and apprehended 04 Bangladeshi Nationals and 01 Indian tout. During preliminary questioning, they reveal their identity as  Abdul Jalil (65) , Helena Begum (52), Baby Akhtar (55), Md Jakharia (05) all residents of Surjya Nagar, of Comilla district of Bangladesh and Rafikul Islam (Indian Tout) the Sonamura of Tripura. An FIR has been lodged and all the apprehended persons along with their recovered items handed over to local Police for further legal action,” the DIG said.
