GANGTOK:

The Sikkim Teachers’ Association (STA), West District, has started a special smartphone donation drive for students who are deprived of digital learning due to the non-availability of smartphones.

The initiative started by STA is aimed at helping students who do not have access to digital learning tools for their online classes.

During the first phase of the donation drive, three students from Singpheng government primary school and two from Singyang school in West Sikkim received the smartphones.

It was informed that the students belonged to economically weaker sections, and the donation will be of great help to them.

In the coming days, the STA will identify other such schools and carry out more such drives with the help of the general public and other contributors.

Meanwhile, members of the STA have requested citizens to spread the message of the ongoing initiative for mass participation so that less privileged students can benefit from the scheme

Beneficiary students parents expressed their deep gratitude to STA for providing the mobile phones.

It may be mentioned that the COVID imposed restrictions have forced the schools to go for digital classes, and many underprivileged students belonging to less privileged sections of society cannot attend online classes due to the unavailability of smartphones or other devices.
