Landslide blocks NH 10, snaps arterial road link between Sikkim & West Bengal

GANGTOK:

The arterial road link between Sikkim and West Bengal snapped when a landslide blocked the National Highway 10 due to incessant rain, an official of the Border Roads Organisation (BRO) said on Thursday.

A massive amount of rocks and slush rolled down the hill as a result of heavy rain and blocked the highway at the 29th Mile area in neighbouring West Bengal, which is around 60 km from the Rangpo border of the Himalayan state, the official said.

The BRO official informed that efforts are being made to clear the debris and open the highway at least for one-way traffic.

However, rain and a continual flow of debris are hindering the work.

Vehicles are taking a different and longer route to reach their destinations. During this monsoon, the area witnessed landslides and blocking of the highway at least thrice, as per reports.
