Golay proposes constructing new highway between Sikkim and West Bengal
 

The new highway would connect Kali Jhora from Rangpo in the West Bengal-Sikkim border via Mansong, 17th Mile Kalimpong, 12th Mile Alpert Villa, Ralli, Khani, Shinji, Samalbong, Samthar and Pampu before joining Kalijohra.

Sikkim Chief Minister P.S Golay, on Wednesday, called on Union Road Transport & Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari in New Delhi to discuss various issues related to road transportation in Sikkim.


Golay also proposed the construction of an alternative National Highway between Sikkim and West Bengal.


The new highway would connect Kali Jhora from Rangpo in the West Bengal-Sikkim border via Mansong, 17th Mile Kalimpong, 12th Mile Alpert Villa, Ralli, Khani, Shinji, Samalbong, Samthar and Pampu before joining Kalijohra.


Golay also requested the Centre to build a national highway between Melli and Singtam and emphasised the need for improving other roads in the state, including the road to Pakyong airport.


“The highlight of the meeting was the improvement of the 134 km road connecting Naya Bazaar-Daramdin-Soreng-Kaluk-Dentam-Uttarey to Chiwabhanjyang and declaring it as a national highway,” stated an official press release.


Meanwhile, the Union Minister assured all possible help to the issues raised by Golay.
