GANGTOK:

Indian football icon turned politician Bhaichung Bhutia slammed Sikkim Chief Minister PS Golay (Tamang) for not raising the demand for Inner Line Permit (ILP) with the centre.

Bhutia, the chief of Hamro Sikkim Party (HSP) said most Northeast states with international borders have the ILP and it is important for Sikkim to also have it.

He claimed that CM Tamang, instead of raising the demand for the introduction of ILP in the Himalayan state, gave a green signal to the Centre to further dilute the provisions of Article 371F, which protects the rights of the Sikkimese people.

"The chief minister should make all memorandum and demands submitted to the Centre during his visit to New Delhi as the people of Sikkim have every right to know the details," Bhutia demanded.

The HSP chief further added that the state government should have urged the Centre to reconsider the introduction of 'One Nation, One Ration Card' in Sikkim as the settlers from outside may take unfair advantage of the scheme.
