SHILLONG:

Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio on Saturday informed that the Union Home Minister Amit Shah has directed stakeholders of the Naga peace talks to resume discussion on the decades-old issue immediately.

"We discussed the issue and since talks are in an advanced stage and there was a four to five months break of the conversation, so he (Amit Shah) gave direction that talks should resume immediately," Rio told The Northeast Today (TNT) in Shillong on July 24.

Rio is in Shillong to attend a special meeting of all the chief ministers of Northeast India, chaired by Union Home Minister Amit Shah.

A parliamentary core committee, involving all-party elected representatives from Nagaland, was formed recently to create a common approach for “One Solution and One Agreement”.

Recently, the committee had made an appeal to the negotiating parties of the Indo-Naga Political dialogue to resume the peace talks with a positive approach of mutual respect by setting aside pre-conditions in the greater interest of the people.

Sources informed that the crucial core committee meeting with the NSCN-IM and the Naga National Political Groups (NNPGs) is scheduled to be held very soon.
