Nagaland gets three new districts

While Tseminyu district has been formed by bifurcating Kohima district, Niuland and Chumukedima districts were carved out of Dimapur district

The Nagaland government has added three new districts - Tseminyu, Niuland and Chumukedima - to the state, taking the total number of districts in the state to 15, announced the state cabinet in Kohima, on December 18.

While Tseminyu district has been formed by bifurcating Kohima district, Niuland and Chumukedima districts were carved out of Dimapur district, becoming the 13th, 14th and 15th districts of Nagaland, respectively.

Expressing happiness over the development, Public Health Engineering (PHE) minister, Jacob Zhimomi referred to the creation of Nuiland and Chumukedima districts under his constituency as “the best Christmas gift” the people of the region could have had.

Taking to Twitter, adviser to Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Services, R Khing wrote, “18.12.2021 a Historic day! TSEMINYU, the 13th District of Nagaland. On behalf of the Rengma Naga, I express my heartfelt gratitude to @CmoNagalandShri@Neiphiu Rio & Cabinet members for fulfilling our long-cherished dream (sic).”
