KOHIMA:

Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio distributed 50 coffee pulping machines to the coffee growers in the Kohima district.

The initiative was led by the Land Resources Department (LRD) on Wednesday.

The machines were distributed at an event held at Solidarity Park in Kohima.

According to officials, the project was funded by the North East Council (NEC).

Appreciating the interest of the local farmers to raise coffee productions, Rio said that there is “huge potential” and a big market across the globe to trade coffee products.

The CM further advised the LRD to train and educate the farmers on the coffee plantation.

He announced that coffee machines will be distributed to every district and sub-divisions through the CM Corpus Fund to set up coffee shops and build a self-reliant society.

District Project Officer (LRD), Dr Menuosietuo Tseikha, informed that nearly 45,00,800 coffee seeds are planted by 1,886 coffee growers in the Kohima district.

With the assistance provided to the coffee growers, he assured that the farmers will continue their efforts towards sustainable farming.

Earlier on Tuesday, the Land Resources Department also distributed rubber roller machines to 65 beneficiaries and coffee pulping machines to 25 beneficiaries in Dimapur.
