Mizoram's Ziona Chana, head of the world's largest family, passes away at 76

The head of the world's largest family Ziona Chana passed away here on Sunday. 

Ziona hailed from the village of Baktawng in central Serchhip district was 76 years and is believed to be having 39 wives and 94 children, making his family the largest in the world. 

Mizoram Chief Minister Zoramthanga made the announcement about Chana's death on Twitter. 

"With heavy heart, #Mizoram bid farewell to Mr. Zion-a (76), believed to head the world's largest family, with 38 wives and 89 children. Mizoram and his village at Baktawng Tlangnuam has become a major tourist attraction in the state because of the family. Rest in Peace Sir!," the Chief Minister tweeted.

Insidene reported that Chana breathed his last at Aizawl's Trinity Hospital suffering from health complications.

‘Chana Pawl’ a group which was founded by his father was led by Chana, a sect which practices polygamy.
