Mizoram to vaccinate Myanmarese refugees against COVID-19

The Health Minister said that the steps taken by the government such as the 'All Mask Campaign' and awareness campaigns on Covid-19 virus have shown positive results as the daily cases of COVID-19 in Mizoram has declined over the past few weeks.

Myanmarese refugees, who have entered Mizoram following the military coup in the country, will be vaccinated against the Covid-19 virus, informed Health Minister Dr R Lalthangliana on November 10.

The Health Minister informed about the decision after chairing a virtual meeting of deputy commissioners, chief medical officers, district information officers.

The meeting also reviewed the ongoing massive vaccination drive in the state, whereby people who refused to take the Covid jab, will be directed to take the same.

The health workers involved in the vaccination drive, however, informed that some people have refrained from taking the jab citing various reasons.

According to the Health Department, till November 9, Mizoram has administered Covid-19 vaccines to 12,26,809 eligible persons, of which 5,27,219 have received both the doses.

The Health Minister said that the steps taken by the government such as the 'All Mask Campaign' and awareness campaigns on Covid-19 virus have shown positive results as the daily cases of COVID-19 in Mizoram has declined over the past few weeks.

Meanwhile on November 10, Mizoram registered 525 new Covid-19 cases with two deaths that pushed the State’s virus caseload to 12,6,386, and total deaths tally to 453.

As per the latest update recorded at 7:00 am, Mizoram has 5,782 active cases, with 12,0,151 recoveries to date.
