Mizoram: Assam Rifles recover cache of arms and ammunition from Zote 

The operation was carried out by a team of Assam Rifles and Customs Department based on specific information.

In a major success in its crusade against smuggling activities, the Serchhip Battalion of Assam Rifles under the aegis of Headquarter Inspector General Assam Rifles (East) recovered one AK-56 Rifle with three empty mags and one 9 mm pistol from the jungle area of Zote in Mizoram on Monday.

The operation was carried out by a team of Assam Rifles and Customs Department based on specific information.  

The arms and ammunition were seized by the Customs Department and further investigation on the matter is going on.

Smuggling of illegal items is a major cause of concern for the state of Mizoram. Assam Rifles, rightly christened as the ‘Sentinels of Northeast’ have been successful in launching such operations against smuggling activities in Mizoram and other parts of the Northeast.
