We’ve intel that there is movement of militants in Meghalaya, says CM Sangma
Chief Minister Conrad Sangma on Wednesday informed that he has intelligence inputs about movements of militants in the state.
“We have intel that there is movement of militants taking place in Meghalaya. That is the reason why we have beefed up security around the state - regular checks, and operations are being conducted in every district,” said Sangma, speaking to the press after the Assembly session.
Speaking about the September 14 incident, when an armed man was gunned down by the security forces in a retaliatory fire in Tura, Sangma said that investigation is on to find out if he is affiliated with any militant outfit.
“Police had information that arms are being moved in the particular route and had set up a check post to thwart any such movements. An individual came in a bike with a heavy bag and on seeing the police, started spraying bullets on them. Police retaliated and a bullet hit him. He later succumbed to the injuries,” said Sangma.
Later, a press statement issued by the West Garo Hills police informed that the deceased has been identified as Robison R Marak, an over-ground worker of militant outfits United Achik Liberation Army (UALA) and Achik Songna Anpachakgipa Kotok (ASAK).
