SHILLONG:

The Meghalaya Social Welfare department is continuing its endeavour in supplying meal ready-to-eat fortified food after Continental Milkose (India) Limited was temporarily suspended.

Speaking to TNT-The Northeast Today, an official said that three firms, namely Aasray Concept foods, Orion Health Food Private Ltd, Rausheena Udyog Ltd are tasked with supplying the fortified food.

Stating why the department has given it to other firms, the official said, “They were also supplying from before along with Milkose. We have to continue with the supply of fortified food.”

It may be recalled the Meghalaya Social Minister Kyrmen Shylla last month informed that the department has temporarily stopped Continental Milkose Ltd (approved manufacturer) for the Integrated Child Development Scheme (ICDS), from processing and supplying the fortified food till the investigation by the Assam police into the alleged scam reaches its conclusion.

It may be mentioned the Assam Police had raided the godown of a Maruti Quality Products Pvt Ltd (MQPPL) and discovered that the rice was lifted from the Food Corporation of India (FCI) Shillong Division and repacked by MQPPL into the East Sunrise brand, which is a part of CML and supplied to the Assam Rifles.
