Seng Samla Mawlai Pyllun petitions Deputy Commissioner over high taxi fares in Shillong

The Seng Samla, through a petition to the DC, sought clarification on the fares charged by the taxis plying in and around Mawlai, including the seating capacity allowed in taxis and JNNURM buses.

Following complaints from the public over hike in taxi fares, the Seng Samla Mawlai Pyllun met the Deputy Commissioner (DC) of East Khasi Hills Isawanda Laloo on November 17.

The Seng Samla, through a petition to the DC, sought clarification on the fares charged by the taxis plying in and around Mawlai, including the seating capacity allowed in taxis and JNNURM buses.

They also sought clarification on the applicability of the odd-even number system in the area, and the number of JNNURM buses that can ply in Mawlai.

Speaking to reporters, the president of the Seng Samla Mawlai Pyllun, Samuel Biam said that the odd and even number system will be exempted shortly after they get approval from the Transport department.

“We are getting complaints that the local taxis are taking advantage. We have come to meet the DC to solve the issue,” Biam said.

As for the JNNURM buses also, the DC assured the organisation that she will take up the matter with the Urban Affairs Department.
