Prominent schools of Shillong have failed to grab the top spot in the Class 10 board examination results for the fourth year in a row.

While Kevinstrong Lawriniang of St. Thomas Higher Secondary School, Mairang, secured the first position this year securing 576 marks out of 600, Wanteibok Pator from Sawlyngdoh Higher Secondary School, Mowkaiaw, bagged the second position securing 575 marks.

They were followed by Kashish Samee of St. Mary's Higher Secondary School, Shillong, and Mridumay Saha of Sherwood School, Tura, who jointly secured third place with 574 marks.

Previously, Sherwood School in Tura had bagged the top rank for three years in a row since 2018.

"I am very happy and thankful to God, and my parents who supported me all along despite financial constraints in our family. Yes, we faced a lot of difficulties because of the pandemic and we couldn't attend classes. But I am grateful to the school and my teachers who worked hard throughout the year," Lawriniang told The Northeast Today (TNT).

"It does not matter if we come from a poor family. We have to trust God and work hard to get good results. And it also doesn't matter which school you go to, all that matters is hard work and perseverance," he added.

Congratulating the students, Meghalaya chief minister Conrad K Sangma tweeted, "Kudos to the toppers who have done their parents, teachers and school/college proud! Wishing each of you a successful future."

Meghalaya education minister Lahkmen Rymbui also took to Twitter to congratulate all students who cleared their class 10 and class 12 board examinations this year.
