NPP ready to welcome any political leader to its camp: Deputy CM

Addressing reporters on November 23, Tynsong said that the door is open to any political leader who wants to join the ruling party. “Any leaders who want to join the party, the door is always open,” he said adding that he cannot say whether Kharpuri is intending to join or not since officially or unofficially the matter is not yet discussed.

SHILLONG:

Expressing ignorance over speculations of cabinet minister Sanbor Shullai and sitting Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) member from Pynursla, Grace Mary Kharpuri joining the National People’s Party (NPP), Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong has maintained that the party is open to welcome any political leader to its camp.

Reasoning further that there is still a lot of time to the 2023 state assembly polls, “Let’s see who is coming into the party. We welcome anybody who wants to join the NPP, that is our principle,” he said.
To a query, however, Tynsong said that NPP is no different from any other political parties when it comes to “which party has a winning edge” and that is one of the criteria that primarily determines while joining and welcoming into a party.

On the stalemate over the veteran political leader and chief adviser to the NPP led MDA government, DD Lapang, Tynsong asserted that the former CM will remain with the NPP despite the Congress’ attempt to rope him back.

“Lapang will stay with us. He is very much within the party (NPP). See attempt or no attempt (by the Congress) that is secondary but let me just tell you, let me clarify that Dr. DD Lapang is very much with the NPP party,” he maintained.
