SHILLONG:

The Directorate of Mineral Resources (DMR), Government of Meghalaya, has sanctioned an amount of Rs 10 crore as royalty share on major minerals to the cash-strapped Garo Hills Autonomous District Council (GHADC).

As per a letter dated June 3, the DMR office wrote to the Secretary of the Executive Committee of the GHADC about the sanction of advance payment from the share of royalty on major minerals to the GHADC.

On Friday, Chief Minister Conrad Sangma said that the Non-Gazette Employees Association (NGEA) of the GHADC has agreed to resume work and hoped that things will normalise.

“The District Council issues have been building up for a very long time and it is not easy to find an immediate solution to problems that they are facing. The only way to move forward is to work as a team. We requested them to work on an understanding,” the CM said, adding that the Council issues are resolved.

Sangma further said that the members of the NGEA, along with the GHADC CEM, had met him while in Tura to discuss the way forward.

Employees of the council have been staging a series of agitation demanding clearance of their salaries.
