SHILLONG:

Joining the Indian Medical Association (IMA) and Assam Medical Service Association (AMSA), the NEIGRIHMS faculty Association (NFA) has condemned the recent attacks on healthcare workers at Hojai, Assam and Chikkamagaluru, Karnataka.

Recently, a doctor at a COVID Care Centre (CCC) in central Assam’s Hojai district was brutally assaulted by the relatives of a COVID positive patient who died at the CCC on Tuesday, triggering widespread protests among the medical fraternity and other sections.

Similarly in Karnataka, a doctor was allegedly assaulted after a six-year-old boy, who he was treating for dengue, passed away.

"Repeated instances of such barbaric attacks have shocked us all. We urge the authorities to take note of such heinous incidents and decree solid provisions to ensure the safety of healthcare providers," NFA said.
During an unprecendented pandemic, while doctors and other healthcare workers are rendering exemplary service beyond their call of duty, such attacks serve to demoralise us all, NFA stated.
