SHILLONG:

The Thma U Rangli Juki (TUR) has condoled the demise of Father. Stan Swamy, an activist Jesuit priest, who worked for the cause of tribal rights, and the rights of the marginalised in Jharkhand.

TUR over a statement issued here on Tuesday, stated that Fr. Swamy suffered from Parkinson's disease, and other age-related complications. During his last moments, he was infected with COVID and had a really hard time coping up with his illness and the accusation levelled against him.

“TUR in this moment of anguish and pain resolves to oppose all instances of fascist authoritarianism and to carry forward the struggles of the oppressed and marginalised. TUR mourns in rage,” the organisation stated.

TUR recalled the legacy of Late Father Swamy and termed his trial as a display of the power of the authoritarian regime working against dissent.
