SHILLONG:

On Thursday, Lok Sabha member from Shillong Vincent Pala, working president James Lyngdoh and senior party leader Charles Pyngrope names were up for the post of Meghalaya Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) president.

Speaking to TNT-The Northeast Today, Congress spokesperson Himalaya M Shangpliang said, “We are behind Charles Pyngrope and our mind is very clear about it. We have given it in writing to the All India Congress Committee.”

The Mawsynram MLA also stated that the name of Charles Pyngrope was recommended when the AICC-in-charge of Meghalaya Manish Chatrath visited Shillong.

“We are upbeat with the results in Garo Hills and are looking forward to 2023,” Shangpliang added.

Meanwhile, another Congress member said that the AICC will entrust the post of president to either Pala or Lyngdoh.

“The AICC will take a call on deciding the next MPCC president after the general elections in other parts of the states are over,” the Congress member said.

Shangpliang said it is up to the opinion of the other Congress members if they rally behind Pala or Lyngdoh.
