SHILLONG:

The Seng Samla Shella (Youth Organisation of Shella) has written to the director of Lafarge Umiam Mining Pvt Ltd requesting the office to provide essential requirements under the CSR policy of LUMPL to villagers of Shella.

The request has been made keeping in mind the COVID pandemic which has incurred a financial burden on the common people.

The president and general secretary of SSS, Kitboklang Shnongwan and Manbhabok Swett said that some villagers in Shella have no means of daily income during the lockdown period following the COVID 19 pandemic.

They pointed out that closure of the borders, trade restrictions and containment measures have been preventing people from getting access to the markets including buying inputs and selling their produce.

The youth body has requested the company to bear all the medical expenses, treatment (hospital charges, bills etc) for COVID-19 patients falling under C and D category and to also provide essential commodities to all the Shella villagers (especially to those who are in containment areas).

The organization has also requested the director for setting up of Community Isolation Centre (CIC) in collaboration with Dorbar Shnong Shella and Shella PHC.

Further, they have requested the director to provide medical equipment such as oxygen cylinders, testing kits (RT-PCR / RAT), PPE’s, masks (N-95 and surgical), gloves, hand sanitisers, etc to CHC Shella.
