Meghalaya: Shops, markets to be closed on Sundays in Shillong following Sec. 144
The District Administration of East Khasi Hills (EKH) has prohibited the opening of shops, establishments, markets, and roadside vendors in and around Shillong agglomeration on Sundays.
In an order issued on Thursday, EKH Deputy Commissioner Isawanda Laloo stated that Section 144 of CrPC would be imposed on Sundays, following an inspection where it was found that COVID-19 protocols were not being followed in public areas.
However, the order exempts pharmacies and medical stores.
Non-adherence to SOPs will attract penalties as per the law, the order stated.
As of the last updated figures, Meghalaya currently has 457 active cases, out of which 360 were reported from East Khasi Hills.
