One person, identified as Anoy Paul from the village of Dalu under West Garo Hills (WGH) was arrested after he was involved in a group clash on April 12.

The incident, which quickly became a law and order situation after residents gheraod the Dalu Police Station last evening, was finally calmed after assurances from the district administration against those that incited the clash.

According to reports, the incident took place after two groups of people clashed in front of a polling booth leading to two persons being injured.

“An FIR has been lodged into the matter and Paul has been arrested and forwarded to judicial custody. The matter is currently under investigation,” said Superintendent of Police Dr MGR Kumar.

Kumar added that a separate FIR was being filed by the presiding officer of the polling station over the matter as the incident was related to acts that took place within the premises of the polling station itself.

Meanwhile, West Garo Hills Deputy Commissioner Ram Singh has assured a magisterial inquiry into the matter to ensure those that were responsible for the violence and the circumstances of the incident could be found out.

Further, the SP added that adequate security has been deployed in the area to calm the situation.
