TURA:

The campaign of the United Democratic Party’s Tura candidate, Dr Pilne A Sangma, may get a boost after the Nationalist Congress Party MLA of Gambegre, Saleng Sangma who will look to decide on putting his party’s weight behind her.

The support for Dr Pilne came after a courtesy visit by UDP president, Metbah Lyngdoh, to the Gambegre legislator on April 9.

The UDP president and Meghalaya Speaker has been on the campaign trail across Garo Hills to boost support for his team for the Garo Hills Autonomous District Council elections to be held on April 12.

The Tura UDP candidate has been in the run to win the seat and faces a tough opposition from BJP’s Bernard Marak, NPP’s Semford Sangma and the Congress’ Kunal Momin.

Meanwhile Metbah, who was in Dengnakpara to campaign for former MDC Kredithson Marak, said in his speech that the time had come to decide on the future of the GHADC.

Kredithson is pitched in a tough battle with the NPP and Congress candidates from the constituency.

“We have come here for our candidate Kredithson Ch Marak. It is very sad to hear lectures of leaders who cheat and lie and give promises even though it’s not possible. I am not here to make (false) promises. When our leaders go back after elections, they should not say they have promised in a public function that road will be done in no time. We like to keep our promises,” exhorted the Speaker while appealing for votes.
