Meghalaya GHADC polls 2021: Meeting for holding peaceful elections in the district held

The Deputy Commissioner, West Garo Hills Ram Singh has convened a meeting with the representatives of Senior Citizens Forum, Church Leaders, Nokma Council, Garo Graduates union, Development Committee Members and others to discuss the conducting the General Elections to the Garo Hills Autonomous District Council (GHADC) peacefully on Friday.

However, a section of the invitees, various NGOs of Garo Hills, protesting the participation of non tribals in the upcoming elections, were conspicuous by their absence.

During the meeting, the Deputy Commissioner informed that preparations for the General Elections to the Garo Hills Autonomous District Council (GHADC) 2021 is almost done and that polling parties will move to their respective polling stations from April 10 ahead of the Polling Day scheduled on April 12.

Further, because of the rumour being spread through social media that some section of the society are protesting the election, the Deputy Commissioner has requested all the members to persuade the concerned groups for reconciliation and address their grievances in the right forum democratically and to allow holding of elections smoothly at the moment adding that the mandate of the District Administration is only to oversee the conduct of elections in a free and fair manner in the district.
