Meghalaya: Installation of 6 oxygen plants under progress, says Aman Warr

Warr informed that a 600 LPM (Litre Per Minute) plant will be installed at Shillong's Civil Hospital, which will be airlifted from Delhi and will reach Shillong on May 25.

DHS Director Aman Warr, on Friday, while addressing a press briefing said that work for the installation of six oxygen plants in Meghalaya is in progress.

Warr informed that a 600 LPM (Litre Per Minute) plant will be installed at Shillong's Civil Hospital, which will be airlifted from Delhi and will reach Shillong on May 25.

Speaking about the current oxygen support system at the hospital, Warr said, “In the meantime, because of the demand of oxygen at Shillong Civil Hospital, the government has arranged for 6 generators of 45 LPM each which is running since last Monday and this facility is catering to 25 COVID beds in the COVID wing of the Hospital.”

Giving details about the oxygen plant at Nongpoh, he said that the plant is in the process of being set up, the machine has reached and the installation work is under progress. 

Similarly, the plant at the Ganesh Das Hospital will be up and running by May 22 (Saturday), he said.

Warr further informed that the oxygen plants at Ganesh Das Hospital, Civil Hospital and RP Chest are from the PM Cares Fund. 

The oxygen plants installed at Jowai, Nongpoh and Tura are funded by UNDP, and are expected to be functional by early next week.

Two more plants one at Khliehriat and the other at Umsawli under UNICEF will come up soon, he said, adding that all other hospitals will be provided with such small plants so that they can cater to the oxygen requirement of COVID patients.

Meanwhile, the government is setting up two cryogenic plants at Umsawli, and it is expected to be functional by June 15, he informed.

The cryogenic plant will cater to the oxygen requirement of the state and is expected to deliver 1000 cylinders refilling capacity in a day. It is a 13 KL plant, the director said

Tura will have another 20 KL being set up at Jengjal,  the tanks for the facility are expected to reach the state within two weeks, he concluded.
