Meghalaya: Home Minister says investigation into bid to float new militant group underway

Earlier, the police had informed that Lamar was intercepted while returning from National Socialist Council of Nagaland - Isak Muivah (NSCN-IM) camp at Hebron near Dimapur in Nagaland, which has prompted the police to initiate an investigation into the matter.

Days after the arrest of social activist Joannes Lamare and three others on suspicion of taking help from a proscribed militant outfit to float a new insurgent group, Home Minister Lahkmen Rymbui on Wednesday said that investigation into the case is on.

Speaking to reporters on Wednesday, Rymbui said that the police department is vigilant to ensure the safety of the public, and thwart any kind of unlawful activities in Meghalaya.

“The matter is under investigation, and it is too premature for me to say anything on the issue. It is the duty of the police to check and prevent any unlawful activities in the state of Meghalaya,” he said.
