TURA:

The Garo Students’ Union (GSU) on Monday wrote to the Executive Committee (EC) ahead of the swearing-in of the new MDC, asking the House to work on ways to ensure a separate electoral roll for the Garo Hills Autonomous District Council (GHADC) in the future.

The pressure group asked for laws to be enacted to ensure separate electoral rolls and the barring of non-tribals from voting and contesting elections to the GHADC.

“Laws should be made as under the Sixth Schedule to ensure this is done,” said assistant general secretary, Salman Sangma.

Further, on the question of nomination to the GHADC, the GSU was of the firm belief that an A’king Nokma needed to be nominated to the Council in the years to come.
