SHILLONG:

The Meghalaya Government is on high alert with regard to the cases of Black Fungus being reported in the country and keeping a watch on any such infections in the state.

Stating that it is a different ball game altogether, Director of DHS (MI) Aman Warr said, “Management of COVID with the fungal infection even if both cases emerge together, we have different drugs for that. We are prepared for that as and when the issue arises.”

“In Meghalaya, we have a temperate climate and it is not very hot here, but as and when the cases come, we are prepared for it. We are on the vigil and we have asked all hospitals to be on the vigil but as of now we have no such cases,” he said.

He further informed that Black fungus mainly affects those who are immunocompromised which includes COVID positive patients falling under C and D categories. Amphotericin-B injection is used for treating black fungus infection, he informed.

Essential commodities kits

Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong said that the government will provide essential kits to COVID-19 patients on home isolation like last year.

He said that taking into consideration the increase in COVID-19 cases across the state, the government has adopted the policy of micro containment in villages, households, and localities.

The patients who are undergoing home isolation will be provided with essential kits and the government will extend provisions of essential commodities to patients in need.

He concluded by saying that the government will create more Corona Care Centers and if the positive patients want to stay at these centres they can do so.
