The Meghalaya government along with different religious leaders in Shillong, unitedly prayed for strength to fight against the COVID 19 pandemic.

The special prayer was organised by the government through a virtual conference, on Sunday.

The virtual conference was streamed live on the government's official media portal.

Leaders of different religions joined with the government to pray for the world as it battles against the COVID crisis.

Giving a brief introduction, Meghalaya chief minister Conrad K Sangma expressed optimism with the increase in the number of recoveries, overtaking the number of new cases detected in the last few days.

Rev Edwin H Kharkongor, led the special program in the meeting.

Religious leaders prayed and chanted to the Almighty for His healing and mercy to those suffering from the disease.

The leaders also prayed for God's comfort for the families who have lost their loved ones to COVID-19.

Several ministers of the state also joined the conference.

The program ended with a benediction from the Archbishop of Shillong, Archbishop Victor Lyngdoh.

The Meghalaya government had conducted a similar program "Meghalaya Prays" on April 12 last year, wherein the chief minister, government officials and a number of artists consolidated in a musical video to pray for the state, the country and the world.
