Meghalaya Govt extends lockdown in East Khasi Hills till June 7

The Government of Meghalaya on Friday extended the existing lockdown in East Khasi Hills district till June 7 with few relaxations in place.

Addressing a press meet on Friday after a review meeting, Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong said, “Lockdown in East Khasi Hills will continue up to 5 am of June 7. However, some relaxations are also put in place.” 

Some exemptions put in place by the government during the extended lockdown are as follows:

*DC shall make sure the availability of essential commodities in all locality within EKH on a need basis.

*Home delivery is permitted subject to permission and regulations to be issued by the DC of EKH.

*Inter-District movement of persons from EKH or to other Districts is still restricted.

*All central govt offices other than those already notified by the Personnel department shall remain close.

*All state government offices other than those notified by the Personnel department shall remain close. 

*State Bank of India, Main Branch, SBI Laitumkhrah Branch shall function with limited staff for government transactions only

*All others banks are permitted to open on May 31 and June 1 with limited staff for urgent transaction only and they shall close by 4 pm.

*All Post Offices are permitted to open on June 2, 3 and 4 with limited staff.

*E-commerce activities and courier services are permitted subject to regulations issued by the DC.

*Hardware stores are permitted to open on a need basis with the prior permission of the DC.

*In situ construction works for government projects that do not involve the movement of labourers are permitted with due intimation to the DC, EKH.

*Funeral gathering will be restricted to 10 persons with prior permission from DC.

Exemption during the extended lockdown : 

*Health services including emergency services and vaccination

*Medicines and pharmaceuticals

*Movement of essential goods

*Persons travelling on essential government duty such as medical team and officials on COVID-19 duty, Police, security and Armed forces, Civil Defence, Fire and Emergency services, electricity, water supply, municipal services, public distribution system (PDS), IPR, telecommunication services, print and electronic media, farming activities in rural areas including betel nut, betel leaf and broomstick.

*MGNREGA activities are also exempted from the lockdown.

Containment measures

The containment measures in the entire East Khasi Hills district from May 31 will be extended until further orders.

*Political, public, social gatherings are not permitted including conferences, meetings and trainings.

*Entry of tourists from outside the state shall not be permitted. All tourist spots shall remain closed, 

*Sports activities are not permitted.

*Inter-state movement of persons shall be restricted. This will not apply to the Transit vehicles that have to pass through the state's entry point for intense checking.

*International border trade or export activities will be allowed but regulations are entrusted to the concerned DCs to issue passes and regulate accordingly 

*The government has authorised all DCs to impose restrictions in the district depending on the local situation and also the SDO (Civil) are being authorised in their respective jurisdiction.
