Shillong:

The police are yet to make any arrests in connection with the Golflinks assault case that led to the death of one even as they maintained that investigation is ongoing.

Speaking to TNT-The Northeast Today, a police official said, “We have taken the statement of some persons. No arrest has been made so far. The matter is under investigation.”

It may be mentioned that the state police department has constituted a seven-member Special Investigation Team (SIT) headed by SP (Shillong City) Vivek Syiem to probe the incident.

The death of Myrthong has sparked outrage and several organisations including the Mahila Congress, held protests to condemn the incident and also pressed for a speedy investigation.

Three people were assaulted by a group of unknown miscreants in Golflinks on March 21, following a football match. Days after the assault, one of the victims succumbed to his injuries at NEIGRIHMS.

The "inability" of the police to make any arrests, in this case, has angered civil societies that demanded speedy justice and the removal of Home Minister Lahkmen Rymbui.
