SHILLONG:

Chief Minister Conrad Sangma and Home Minister Lahkmen Rymbui on Monday refrained from commenting on the IED planted by the proscribed Hynniewtrep National Liberation Council (HNLC) at the National People’s Party (NPP) office, stating that a police report on the same is awaited.

“I have not got any official report from the police department yet. It is a law-and-order situation. Let me get the report,” said Sangma. Similarly, Rymbui added that the matter is under investigation so he can’t comment on it.

Referring to the threats against the political party, Sangma said that the police department will analyse everything, and subsequently ascertain the details on the matter.

Earlier in the day, an improvised explosive device (IED) was found at the National People's Party (NPP) office in Lower Lachumiere. After receiving information, the police and bomb squad rushed to the location and immediately cordoned off the area barring all movement of people and vehicles within 100 meters around the NPP office for safety reasons. However, upon inspection, the 5-kg bomb did not denotate because of "faulty wiring", the police said, adding that it contained gelatin sticks stuffed in a paint container.
