Meghalaya CM chairs GOM meeting for concession on COVID relief items

Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma on Thursday chaired a meeting of the Group of Ministers (GoM) to examine GST concession and exemption on COVID relief materials as mandated by the Union Finance Ministry.

Speaking to media persons after the meeting, he said that several recommendations were made by the GOM including GST reductions on items that will be submitted to the GST council before June 8.

Some of the items on which concessions were sought include medicines, hand sanitizers, temperature equipment, ventilators, medicine for black fungus disease, vaccines, diagnostic kits, RT-PCR kits and others.

Sangma further added that the GST council will take the final call on the concessions after the recommendations made by the GOM is submitted.

Speaking about the details of the concession on COVID relief  items, Sangma said, "COVID items that people or patients have to buy directly, we will make sure to bring down the rates to the maximum, so that maximum relief can be given to the public."

Sangma said that among other things, the meeting also discussed the rules, regulations and laws based on which the council functions.
