Meghalaya: Body of second miner retrieved from Sutnga coal mine

The central team had been pressed into action since June 12 to rescue all the five miners trapped at the coal mine, however, the daunting operations have been marred by various obstacles.

SHILLONG:

The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and the Indian Navy divers, on Thursday, retrieved the body of the second miner from the Sutnga coal mine located in East Jaintia Hills. 

The central team have been pressed into action since June 12 to rescue all the five miners trapped at the coal mine, however, the daunting operations have been marred by various obstacles.

The Indian Navy divers had on June 16 retrieved the first body, which has still not been identified and claimed.

The Meghalaya government had earlier sought the help of the Indian Navy to rescue the five miners-four from Assam and one from Tripura, trapped inside the coal mine since May 30, 2021.
