SHILLONG:

Minister-in-charge Food, Civil Supplies and Consumers Affairs James K Sangma on November 18 has urged everyone to let the independent inquiry constituted to probe into the alleged rice scam do its work.

“Let’s give it (independent inquiry) sometime to do their work with due diligence… let us wait for the report to come out,” Sangma told the press.

He was reacting to a query on the delay in the start of the inquiry into the matter. “If the report takes too less time that is also something people find fault in. If the committee finishes and concludes their findings in a short time that is also said to be hastily done. So, let’s wait for the report,” he said.

Refusing to comment further on the issue, Sangma said that the matter does not fall under his department, but under the social welfare department. He, however, said, “I am very sure that the government after having instituted that committee, the work is in progress.”
