NONGPOH:

Ambassador of Japan Satoshi Suzuki, on November 24, inspected the oxygen plant installed at Nongpoh Civil Hospital, and expressed happiness on its functioning.

“The Covid-19 pandemic has had a huge impact on India and Meghalaya, disrupting the medical infrastructure. The oxygen plant has been set up as a goodwill gesture from Japan to Meghalaya,” Suzuki said.

Sponsored by the Government of Japan through the United National Development Programme (UNDP) in collaboration with the Government of India and Meghalaya, the plant can generate 150 LMP of Medical oxygen at the facility, thus helping the hospital in meeting the emergency oxygen requirements.

Suzuki and his team were welcomed by Health and Family Welfare Minister James Sangma, who thanked the Japanese government for coming forward and supporting the cause.

“It was during the peak of Covid that the Government of Japan and United Nations Developmental Programme (UNDP) came forward to help the Indian government in uplifting healthcare facilities in different states. The Government of Meghalaya is indebted to the Embassy of Japan for the assistance," he said.
