SHILLONG:

Meghalaya Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) chief Vincent H Pala on November 15 said he would continue to pursue Dr DD Lapang to come back to the Congress.

The Shillong MP said that the party workers of Ri Bhoi had requested Lapang to come back because he was a mentor to most of them including Nongpoh MLA Mayralborn Syiem and Mawhati MDC Charles Marngar.

“(However), I have not met or talked to Lapang personally on this issue. But I will talk to him,” said Pala.

Lapang, who is currently the chief adviser to the National People’s Party (NPP)-led Meghalaya Democratic Alliance (MDA) government, had recently expressed his unwillingness to return to the Congress.

Pala, on the other hand, is confident that Lapang will change his mind. “I am confident that it will depend on the situation, if we do well, Lapang as we know his mind and heart, is always with the Congress but because of certain reasons, he had left the party.”

The Congress chief further informed that he would soon take up this issue with the party high command.

“I will talk to the high command on this issue. I have not talked to him…I am very keen to have Lapang with us,” he said, adding that as a president of the MPCC he isn’t giving up on getting the veteran back to the party’s fold.

“We also have to discuss the issue with senior leaders of the party. I am yet to call a meeting on this issue. So first will discuss among us and will put a note to the high command and if all of them agree, then definitely will do. But personally, I would love to see Lapang back. He will be an asset for the party in the future,” Pala said.
