SHILLONG:

Minister in-charge of the power department James K. Sangma is hopeful that the committee formed to look into the irregularities in the power department would complete its inquiry at the earliest.

"We are hopeful that the inquiry committee completes its inquiry and the entire process that there is to it. It takes time and many formalities need to be completed; a lot of paperwork needs to be done, which is why they might be taking time. But hopefully, this process can be completed at the earliest," he said in a statement, on Monday.

The Power Minister also informed that the government has cleared the pending dues of the power-generation companies and the dues before March 2020 will be cleared once the second installment of the Atma Nirbhar loan is received.

The amount will be disbursed to the power-generating companies including North Eastern Electric Power Corporation (NEEPCO), NTPC Ltd., and Power Grid Corporation of India Limited (PGCIL), James said.

He added that he was hopeful that the companies will consider the delay in payment as there is a lot of paperwork involved in the process.
