SHILLONG:

Reacting to the Meghalaya High Court order that Covid vaccination cannot be forced on individuals, Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma on December 19 said, “The government has not done anything on that line”, and the directive is only to highlight the importance of vaccination to keep people safe from the virus.

“The government still insists that vaccination is very important and still urges the people that they must take the vaccination,” Sangma said, while adding that most of the Covid-related deaths have been reported among people who have not taken Covid-19 vaccines.

He further pointed out that taking into consideration the Omicron variant, which has become a new threat, it is important that people take extra precautions and inoculate themselves against the virus.

"Therefore I urge the people that they must get vaccinated and also be careful in all the protocols that we should follow," he added.
