SHILLONG:

Congress legislator from Rangsakona, Zenith M Sangma on Thursday, donated an advanced life support (ALS) ambulance to the people of his constituency.

This was the first ALS ambulance in Garo Hills.

Requesting the public to utilise a modern ambulance, Sangma said, "The modern ambulance vehicles would be useful in providing better medical services during emergencies."

This ALS ambulance, costing Rs 26 lakh, was dedicated to the people by Sangma with the objective of supporting the fight against deadly viruses in the backdrop of Covid-19 pandemic.

At present in Meghalaya, there are three ALS ambulances of which one is at the Stepdown COVID hospital at Umsawli, one in Shella, and another in Laitkynsew. However, NEIGRIHMS hospital too has one ALS ambulance.

The ALS ambulance is fully equipped to handle patients needing life support. ALS ambulances are well equipped with tools and equipment similar to a hospital emergency department or critical care unit.
